Breakthrough Behavior Introduces Innovative Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is a short-term behavior management program lasting 14-18 weeks designed for children ages 2-6 experiencing behavioral and emotional difficulties

Breakthrough Behavior is excited to now offer Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to families in Florida. PCIT is a short-term behavior management program lasting 14-18 weeks designed for children ages 2-6 experiencing behavioral and emotional difficulties, including arguing, loss of temper, destruction of property, and difficulty staying seated or playing quietly. PCIT works with the child and caregiver together to improve behavior and reduce parenting stress. The treatment is now available at Breakthrough Behavior’s Downtown Orlando clinic.

“PCIT is a very unique treatment option for parents looking to take a more active role in their child’s behavioral improvement,” said Breakthrough Behavior CEO Magen Pierce. “We are fortunate to feature the tools and resources needed for PCIT at our Downtown Orlando clinic.”

PCIT is an effective treatment backed by more than 30 years of research, with live coaching as a hallmark of the program. The therapist observes the caregiver and child together through a two-way mirror, then provides coaching on the PCIT skills. Caregivers and therapists work together to manage challenging child behaviors. Live coaching allows caregivers to learn skills more rapidly through immediate feedback. Breakthrough Behavior’s Director of Clinical Psychology Dr. Allison Brazendale oversees and personally leads the PCIT treatment program.

"I am excited to bring PCIT to the individuals and families we serve. Technology allows us this innovative platform to showcase treatment techniques to caregivers and a live environment, as well as provide real-time feedback during challenging situations.”

Dr. Brazendale has more than 10 years experience in gifted, ADHD, learning disability, and autism assessment and treatment. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University and completed her postdoctoral work at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Brazendale is a licensed psychologist who is also research reliable in the ADOS-2. She was previously the Director of Psychology Services for the Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment.

Parents and caregivers interested in PCIT can contact Breakthrough Behavior at 407-574-5732 or intake@breakthroughbehavior.com to schedule an initial assessment. After an evaluation with Dr. Brazendale, the PCIT program lasts approximately 14-18 weeks at the Downtown Orlando clinic.
