Dr. Nicole McMillan Joins Breakthrough Behavior as New Senior Vice President of Clinical Success

Dr. McMillan is a leading research clinician in the applied behavior analysis field


Breakthrough Behavior has welcomed Nicole McMillan, PhD., BCBA-D as the organization’s new Senior Vice President of Clinical Success. With more than 13 years of experience in the applied behavior analysis (ABA) field, Dr. McMillan will oversee Breakthrough Behavior’s new research department, student analysts, and the Learning and Development training platform, as well as special projects related to outcome measures.

Over the past 13 years, Dr. McMillan has dedicated her professional life to the science and practice of ABA, first engaging in the field while pursuing her undergraduate degrees in communication sciences and disorders and psychology at Louisiana State University. In 2015, she graduated with her doctorate in cognitive and behavioral Sciences with an emphasis in ABA from Auburn University. Her clinical experience across both skill acquisition and assessment and treatment of problem behavior has been in a variety of settings, such a center-based clinics, residential schools, in-home services, public and private schools, and early intervention preschools. Those settings have included serving individuals across populations, including neurotypical children and adolescents, caregivers, teachers, direct care staff, individuals with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities, and children with visual impairments.

Throughout her career, Dr. McMillan’s roles have evolved but all have provided her with a repertoire across several facets of business operations and clinical management, particularly in quality assurance development and maintenance, clinical team mentorship, community outreach, executing clinically relevant research projects, university program partnerships, and training and professional development. Her passion lies with service excellence and ensuring that families are receiving the highest quality services possible from intake through graduation. She believes strongly in a scientist-practitioner model and incorporating best practice guidelines into all levels of service delivery and clinical training. Her research interests include quality assurance and outcomes, clinical decision-making, and early intensive behavioral intervention. Dr. McMillan currently resides in St. Petersburg, Florida, with her husband and 17-month-old daughter. Outside of working alongside the Breakthrough Behavior team, she enjoys the beach, outdoor festivals, hot yoga, cooking, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
