Breakthrough Behavior provides evaluation, treatment and ongoing training to support speech and language development of patients and their families

Breakthrough Behavior is proud to announce Ryan Hoesten, M.A., CCC-SLP as the organization’s new Assistant Director of Speech-Language Pathology. Ryan will oversee the fast-growing speech therapy department and numerous speech-language pathologists committed to utilizing evidence-based techniques and strategies to achieve meaningful outcomes for patients and their families. Breakthrough Behavior serves individuals with developmental disabilities that often experience difficulty communicating. The organization’s speech-language pathologists offer comprehensive assessment and treatment for a variety of speech, language, and feeding and swallowing concerns.

“Speech therapy is such a critical component of our client’s care,” said Breakthrough Behavior Chief Executive Officer Maegen Pierce, “and is completely integrated into our day-to-day therapy. Ryan’s experience, expertise and innovation make him an ideal leader for our speech therapy department moving forward. Breakthrough Behavior is so fortunate to offer these speech services alongside our applied behavior analysis therapy—all with the goal to provide a simple and comprehensive treatment plan to our clients and their families.”

Ryan received a master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Central Florida and he has nearly ten years of experience working with individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. Ryan began his work at the University of Central Florida Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (UCF-CARD), then served as a speech-language pathologist at Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) centers where he was also a supervisor for graduate-level student clinicians. He has contributed to the development and execution of social skills groups and summer programs, such as Breakthrough Behavior’s Camp InterACTION!

“It’s an extremely exciting time to be a part of the speech therapy department at Breakthrough Behavior,” said Ryan. “We’re increasing patient access to quality services by expanding our speech therapy team, engaging in ongoing training on important clinical topics and areas, and collaborating with applied behavior analysis teams more than ever. The addition of Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Amanda Kelly’s leadership has further highlighted the importance of evidence-based practice to provide the best outcomes for our speech therapy patients.”

Ryan provides one-on-one speech therapy, specializing in early intervention, speech and language intervention with school-age children, group social skills and pragmatic intervention across the lifespan, and feeding and swallowing disorders in the medically complex pediatric population. He received training and has experience supporting children through the implementation of augmentative & alternative communication (AAC), including the use of speech-generating devices (SGDs).
